Annual Events include the Sacramento Music Festival, Gold Rush Days, the California Brewers Festival, the Festival de la Familia, Dine Downtown restaurant event, and Friday Night Concerts in the Park, to name a few.
Government and transportation remain the largest sectors of employment in Sacramento, in addition to information technology service, hospitality, education, and health services. Technology-related companies such as Intel and Hewlett-Packard are among the area's largest employers. Financial institutions, education and health services are the fastest-growing employment areas in recent years due in part to the proximity to research centers and a well-educated labor pool.
The Sacramento City Unified School District administers K-12 public education to the Downtown/Midtown community of Sacramento. Higher education is provided by Sacramento State, Sacramento City College and American River College, to name a few. The California State University in Sacramento and specialty extension of the University of Southern California is also located near downtown Sacramento.
